Lahore Qalandars vs Peshawar Zalmi, PSL 2024: Who Said What
Babar Azam | Peshawar captain: "Feel good. All credit to boys. At the toss I saw the pitch, I thought about 180-190, but the way we started, first six overs and then gradually built the innings. In my opinion, we were 10-15 short. Use the big boundary and believe in yourself. Bowl your best ball according to the field.
"Focus on bowling and fielding. [on Ayub] Good to see him, he struggled in the first 3 games. I spoke to him and said, believe in yourself, see the ball and play the ball, because you are the best. As a captain you think too much, when you have a senior player like Powell, he is already West Indies captain, I always go and ask him what I can do and which bowlers we can use. Our communication is good."
Saim Ayub | Player of the Match: "I always try to be aggressive in approach and with a good mindset. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't go your way but I stay positive. Even 200-plus is tough to defend, we too have to use strategy as batters.
"We assess the conditions and then we assess how many we can defend, then once we are set, we go for the maximum. Batting and bowling is different but fielding is always in your hands, I try to bring positive energy always."
Shaheen Afridi | Lahore skipper: "It's a good wicket and there was swing as well, Rassie played an excellent knock. It was a close-game. Depending on the boundary dimensions. We have decided our batting order today and that was the thinking behind not promoting Raza up the order.
"(On Rauf) He is an asset for Pakistan and needs him ready for the World Cup. Yeah definitely missed him today and wishing him a speedy recovery. If Fakhar can get runs at the top, then the batters to follow can go a bit more aggressive, that's one thing we are hoping for. The batters in the middle are doing fine and it would look even better if Fakhar fires at the top. We are two-time champions and these things happen (going through a difficult phase this season)."
Paul Walter: "Luckily we did manage to get a nice total to defend. I had a long side and it was about keeping it away from the short side. Had the first ball gone for six it would have been tough. Once the first two balls did not go for six, it was fine.
"Tough conditions especially with the dew coming on. Rassie batted unbelievable and Saim for us as well. Keep it simple and use the long side as much as possible and not get whacked. Tonight was really important especially after losing the first two. [on Sammy] Loads of energy and a really good environment."
