Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to face a couple of grave challenges due to the general elections in Pakistan expected to be held in January-February next year. Pakistan's president on Wednesday unilaterally proposed November 6 as the date for the general elections in a letter written to the chief election commissioner.
However, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) chairman has turned down the invitation and the election dates are expected to be set for sometime in January-February.

Under this scenario, the PSL which is usually held in the January-February window will have to find a new home. Unfortunately, UAE - which has hosted the league and Pakistan national team as a neutral venue in the past - will not be an option because of its own T20 league ILT20 2024 which will be played from January 19 to February 18.
PSL Governing Council will meet on September 25 to discuss possibilities on venues and dates. But there is a high chance of PSL 2024 and IPL 2024 clashing now.
Even if PSL 2024 is scheduled to be held after the completion of ILT20 2024. there are chances that a few of its matches will clash with the IPL which starts towards the end of March. Pakistan also does not have to host the league in December-January as they would be touring Australia and New Zealand during the period. The window also is reserved by the Big Bash League (BBL)
PSL will stand a risk of losing on the services of their foreign stars, coaches and support staff as most of them prioritise the cash-rich IPL. IPL 2024 will also be facing its own challenges as the T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to be held in the West Indies and the USA from June 4. The BCCI would target to wrap up the 10-team tournament by May 27 at least.
Key overseas players could also give IPL 2024 a miss (fully or partially) because of the same reason. Indian general elections are also set to be held next year between April-May and the BCCI might have to shift the entire or part of the tournament outside India.
