PSL 2024 Match Result: Islamabad United Beat Karachi Kings by Five Wickets, Jump To Second Spot

By Robin Pal

PSL 2024 Match Result: The PSL 2024 match 24 between Karachi Kings and Islamabad United finished with a win for Islamabad United over Karachi Kings by five wickets and made its case stronger for qualification at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on Thursday evening (March 07).

Islamabad United bags a crucial win in a low-scoring encounter, which has become a norm at Rawalpindi in the last few games. Islamabad bowlers restricted their opponents to a below-par score of 150 in Naseem's absence. Faheem Ashraf couldn't put a wrong foot today as he picked 2/16, took some brilliant catches and finished off the game with the bat.

At the beginning of the chase, Islamabad lost both their openers inside the powerplay. Then Salman (33 off 30 balls) and Shadab (34 off 26 balls) forged an important half-century partnership. Muzarbani (1/24) gave a glimmer of hope to Karachi by breaking the Partnership. Islamabad lost three wickets within a span of four overs. But Haider (26 off 16 balls) and Faheem (12 off 8 balls) made sure that there were no further setbacks and brought the game home. Mir Hamza (3/41) was the highest wicket-taker for Karachi.

Islamabad United won the toss and chose to bowl as Karachi Kings came out to set the target. However, Karachi didn't start well and scored 38-1 after the powerplay. Shan Masood failed to make any impact yet again as he got out early by Faheem. Seifert was looking good but fell when he tried to accelerate. Malik and Nawaz also went quickly and left Karachi struggling at 49/4.

Pollard and Vince got together and approached the inning smartly. They put up a 58-run partnership for the 5th wicket to bring their side out of the slumps. However, a superb delivery from Mills took out Vince. Then Pollard was supposed to unleash in the death overs but became the prey of Hunain against the run of play. Due to this, Karachi ended up 15-20 runs short and conjured up 150-7 (20 overs).

It was a tricky pitch to bat as Islamabad lost both Munro and Hales to Hamza in the powerplay. But Salman and Shadab got together and calmed things down as they formed a fifty-plus partnership. However, there was a slight stutter as Islamabad lost three wickets on the trot. Haider along with Faheem took his team over the winning line.
