Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators will play the second match of the Pakistan Super League on Sunday in Lahore. The Babar Azam-led side will start as host for the match. This will mark their first game of the PSL 2024.

Both teams will intend to start the tournament on a positive note after failing to climb the ladder last year. The match is expected to be an evenly-contested affair with the unfamiliarity of both teams to the Lahore conditions barring the few international regulars.

Peshawar Zalmi has the quality of batting unit on their side but that isn’t the case when it comes to bowling. Babar will lead the side for the second consecutive year, and he’ll be responsible for anchoring their batting order. Zalmi will depend on the Afghanistan bowling duo of pacer Naveen-ul-Haq and left-arm wrist spinner Noor Ahmad to do a bit part of the damage in the initial stage.

West Indies T20I captain Rovman Powell will be the power-hitter that the team management will bank on to up the ante late in the innings. Young wicketkeeper Mohammad Haris can add fire to the start alongside skipper Babar Azam.

Quetta Gladiators will start a new dawn under South African player Rilee Rossouw’s leadership. Just a few days before the start of the tournament, the captaincy change was revealed, bringing an abrupt end to Sarfaraz Ahmed’s eight-year role as the team captain.

The 2019 PSL champions boasts of quality pacers in Mohammad Hasnain and Mohammad Wasim. To add flavour to this department, Mohammad Amir and Sohail Khan bring their valuable experience into the picture. Usman Qadir, Akeal Hosein and youngster Abrar Ahmed will be part of the spin unit.

Quetta lacks a genuine power-hitter in their ranks but West Indies bowling all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford can take the charge here with Sarfaraz being the other option.
