Cricket enthusiasts are bracing for an exciting phase in the cricket calendar as the Pakistan Super League gears up for its ninth season.
This premier T20 competition, renowned for unearthing cricketing talent and delivering thrilling matches, is set to witness a significant event that shapes the dynamics of the forthcoming season - the PSL 2024 player draft.

Scheduled for Wednesday, December 13, the draft heralds a pivotal moment for the six franchises vying for glory in the league.
With the roster of teams including Peshawar Zalmi, Lahore Qalandars, Karachi Kings, Multan Sultans, Quetta Gladiators, and Islamabad United, each outfit is meticulously planning its strategy to assemble a formidable squad.
The draft permits teams to recruit up to three players each from the elite Platinum, Diamond, and Gold categories, enhancing their core with top-tier talent. Additionally, franchises have the opportunity to draft five players from the Silver category, alongside two emerging talents and a couple of supplementary players, culminating in a well-rounded 18-member squad.
In preparation for this crucial selection process, teams were presented with an opportunity to secure the backbone of their squad during the trade and retention window. Each franchise had the option to retain up to eight players, ensuring continuity and stability in their line-ups. This strategic move allowed teams to safeguard key performers and maintain a strong team identity heading into the new season.
Adding another layer of intrigue to the drafting process is the introduction of the Right to Match (RTM) Card in the PSL 2024. This strategic pick can be used once by each team which offers a chance to reclaim a player by matching the bid made by another franchise.
The RTM Card is a game-changer, providing teams with the ability to retain a player from their previous season's squad.
