The Pakistan Super League season 9 - PSL 2024 Playoff race was extended to at least one more day after Karachi Kings defeated Lahore Qalandars in a last-ball thriller on Saturday (March 9) night at the National Stadium in Karachi.
With three needed off the last ball, Shoaib Malik found a crucial boundary as fifth-placed Karachi Kings kept their PSL playoff hopes alive with a 3-wicket victory in their penultimate leage stage match, adding pressure on Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators.

The victory saw Karachi Kings go up to 8 points from 9 matches. However, Islamabad United pulled off an incredible run chase off 229 thanks to Imad Wasim's last-over heroics that helped them seal the third playoff spot.
With just three matches remaining in the league phase, we are set for a gripping finale as two teams will battle to join Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United in the PSL Playoffs 2024.
Mohammed Rizwan's Multan Sultans became the first team to confirm their entry into the playoffs followed by Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi and then Shadab Khan's Islamabad United.
Now, with the league stage set to end on Tuesday (March 12), here is a look at the PSL 2024 points table how Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings can qualify for the PSL 2024 playoffs:
Scenario 1: The Gladiators led by Rilee Rossouw will need to win one of their two matches to confirm a top four finish. The Gladiators can book their spot as early as Sunday (March 10) with a victory over Lahore Qalandars or they can do it by beating Multan Sultans two days later on Tuesday (March 12).
Scenario 2: The season 4 champions can also qualify with two defeats if Karachi Kings lose their remaining match. However, Quetta would want to do the job themselves then depend on other results.
For Karachi Kings, their fate will be known on Sunday (March 10). If Quetta win their match, then Shan Masood's side will be out of contention from making the playoffs as even a win over Zalmi will see them finish only on 10 points, 1 fewer than the required points to finish in the top four.
If Quetta Gladiators slip up, then Kings will need to win and hope Rossouw's team lose their final match as well. With two games left to play, Gladiators have a better chance compared to the Kings. Gladiators have an extra game advantage. Gladiators also have a chance of finishing in the top two by winning their remaining two matches.
In the end, the washed out games may come to help Quetta. But if they lose their remaining matches and Karachi win their game in hand, they will not go through.
