PSL 2024: Playoffs Qualification Scenarios of Every Team

We are inching towards the culminating of the PSL 2024, with all the teams looking to book their places in the playoffs. All six teams have won the trophy at least once since the first edition of the PSL. The reigning and two-time champion Lahore Qalandars are the only team to win the competition twice in a row.

According to the PSL 2024 schedule, every team will play all five other teams twice in a double round-robin format. After the completion of the league phase, the top four teams will contest in the playoffs. Let's evaluate the chances of all the teams based on their performances.

Multan Sultans

So far, Multan Sultans have been the only team to qualify for the playoffs and is currently ranked No.1 at the points table. They have been the team to beat so far in the tournament.

Sultans, led by Mohammad Rizwan has participated in seven games, winning six out of them with 12 points and a net run rate (NRR) of +1.133. From here on, Multan will play to secure one of the top two spots so that they will have two shots to make it to the finals. All of their departments are firing, whether batting, bowling or fielding. They have two batsmen in the top 10 and four bowlers in the top 10 in the tournament, more than any other team.

Quetta Gladiators

So far, Quetta Gladiators have emerged victorious from four of their six league games in the PSL 2024 and sit at the 2nd spot in the points table. They have a total of nine points and an NRR of +0.313. Quetta, led by Rilee Russouw, must win two or more of the remaining games to finish with 12 or more points to advance to the playoffs.

If they win more than two games, they will be guaranteed a spot in the PSL 2024 first qualifying round. The secret to their success is playing as a co-hisive unit as they don't have a single batter or bowler in the top 10.

Peshawar Zalmi

The Peshawar Zalmi have seven points from six matches so far. Babar Azam and the company have had several hits and misses this season. The Zalmi's will need to win at least three games to ensure they achieve a top-four finish in the playoffs. If Peshawar fails to get three wins then, they will have to rely on the other teams to qualify.

Peshawar skipper Babar stands at No. 1 in the top 10 batters and they have two bowlers in the top 10. However, their net run rate of -0.285 will be another stumbling block in case they are tied with other teams on the same point at the PSL points table.

Islamabad United

Islamabad United have accumulated five points from six games, standing 4th in the points table. Islamabad has lost three games and won two, with one game being washed away by rains. If they win all their remaining games, they can reach a maximum of 13 points.

They have a net run rate of +0.108 which might prove helpful for them as the other bottom three teams have negative net run rates. They have a single batter and bowler in the top 10. However, qualifying for them won't be an easy task as the teams ahead of them have to lose several games.

Karachi Kings

The Karachi Kings have won two and lost four after six games. They have four points to their name with an NRR of -0.460. The Kings need to win all their remaining four games to present any contention for the playoffs. Even then, it'll be an uphill battle for them with all the injury concerns and unavailability of players.

Lahore Qalandars

Lahore Qalandars are having a season better to forget. Shaheen Afridi and the company have struggled miserably. After seven games played, the team suffered six losses and gained only a single point due to the washed-out game.

Lahore is the only team which is virtually out of the tournament, except something out of the world happens. Though, they have two batsmen and a bowler in the top 10, nevertheless, practically it's next to impossible.

PSL 2024 Playoff format
