Usman Tariq bowled a game-changing spell of 2/16 with an exceptional economy rate of 4.00 against Karachi in the 16th match of PSL 2024. The spinner's efforts helped Quetta win the game by five wickets.
His economic spell made the difference for Quetta as Kings were 15-20 runs short. The mystery bowler first took out both the aggressors (Seifert and Vince). Then, Tariq bowled a miserly spell in the middle overs and made life difficult for Shoaib Malik and other batters.

He came into the attack in the 7th over when Quetta Gladiators were looking for a wicket after a brilliant 2nd wicket partnership ( 61 runs in 6 overs) between Seifert and Vince.
Seifert (21 runs off 11 balls)and Vince (37 runs off 25 balls) were scoring freely till the powerplay. Tariq came to bowl and got rid of Vince and Seifert in the same over. He trapped Seifert in front of the wickets on the very first delivery of his over. He provided the much-needed break for Karachi with his unique bowling action and spin variation.
If that wasn't enough to slow down the scoring rate of Karachi, Usman Tariq took out Vince by Lbw on the last delivery of the same over. Because of his brilliant spell of bowling, other spinners stepped up and contributed. The West Indian, Hosein took 2/34 (4 overs) and the leg-spinner, Abrar took 3/31 (4 overs). The spinning department of Quetta helped restrict Karachi to a total of 165-8 (20 overs).
After a 57-run opening stand, Quetta lost five wickets for 32 runs and found themselves in a bit of trouble. They needed 66 off the last 6 overs, which was looking tricky to score. However, Rutherford (58 runs off 31 balls) and Akeal (22 runs off 17 balls) brought the game home for Quetta.
It was a game which could've gone either way. Karachi will look back and think of it as a missed opportunity. They dropped a few catches and missed a few run-out chances which did prove costly as they lost their third in five games.
