PSL 2025 Draft: Possible Venue & Date For Next Pakistan Super League Player Drafting Process

Pakistan Super League (PSL) players draft could be around the corner as franchises reportedly apply pressure on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to make announcement on the drafting date and the schedule for PSL 2025.

PSL 2025 is set to coincide with the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 in the upcoming season due to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 being scheduled to be held in the original window of the PSL in February-March.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have been busy with finalizing the schedule for their first multi-nation tournament since 2009, and have hence put plans for the PSL draft on hold till the Champions Trophy dates and venues are finalized.

While the board is busy with the Champions Trophy meetings, latest reports suggest the franchises have pressed the management to finalize the schedule and draft dates at the earliest to ensure a successful tournament.

According to reports in the Pakistan media, a high-profile meeting was recently held in Lahore between the PSL franchises and members of the PCB to discuss the matters related to the next edition of the league.

With the season likely to be held in the April-May window next year, the PSL 2025 draft should not be that far away. Here is a look at the possible date and venue for the PSL Draft 2025:

When could the PSL 2025 Players Draft be held?

PSL 2025 Possible Date: The PSL players draft was held on December 13, 2023 for PSL 2024 season which started in February. With the next season likely to start only in April, the draft will be held at a later date, possibly in January.

Where will the 2025 PSL Draft be held?

The PSL draft was held at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore last year. But this year, the PSL 2025 Draft could be held outside Pakistan, according to a report in the local media. The report states, the six franchises suggested holding the draft in either England or Dubai in a bid to increase the popularity of the PSL.

The date and venue as well as the players entering the draft will be announced once PCB finalize the dates and venues for the Champions Trophy after the announcement of the tournament's schedule was delayed due to India's decision to not travel to Pakistan.

In all likelihood, the PSL draft could be held in the first two weeks of January 2025. There is a report also suggesting that prominent overseas players like Steve Smith, David Warner, Kane Williamson, and Jonny Bairstow, who did not have takers in the IPL Mega Auction last month, have been approached for the draft.
