PSL 2025: Lahore Qalandars Crush Karachi Kings by 65 Runs, Shaheen Afridi, Fakhar Zaman, Rishad Hossain Star in Win

By MyKhel Staff

PSL 2025: Lahore Qalandars roared back into the Pakistan Super League with a statement win, overpowering Karachi Kings by a massive 65-run margin in a one-sided encounter at the National Bank Cricket Arena.

Opting to bat first, Lahore's innings was built on a rock-solid foundation laid by their seasoned top-order duo, Fakhar Zaman and Daryl Mitchell. The pair made batting look effortless, finding gaps with precision and punishing anything loose.

Fakhar was the aggressor early on, racing to 76 off just 42 deliveries, while Mitchell complemented him beautifully with a composed yet fluent 75 off 46 balls. Their 139-run stand put the Kings' bowling under immense pressure, and even Hasan Ali's inspired spell of 4/28 couldn't stem the run flow as Lahore finished with an imposing 201/6.

Chasing 202 was always going to be a stiff task, and Karachi's reply quickly turned into a nightmare. Their innings unravelled in the powerplay, as Shaheen Afridi made the new ball talk. He removed key batters early and returned with figures of 3/34, setting the tone for the collapse.

However, it was Rishad Hossain, making a sensational impact in his PSL debut, who truly derailed the chase. His beguiling leg-spin fetched him three crucial wickets, including Shan Masood and Irfan Khan, finishing with excellent figures of 3/26.

Karachi never found momentum. Tim Seifert's scratchy 18 off 22 and Shan Masood's brief resistance were undone by poor shot selection and tight bowling. The middle order collapsed in a heap, with Sikandar Raza adding his name to the wickets column and Haris Rauf finally getting reward for his discipline, finishing with 1/23.

Despite being seven down inside 12 overs, the Kings showed a flicker of defiance through Khushdil Shah. His 39 off 27 balls featured clean hitting and some spirited counter-attack, including a six and two boundaries in a single over against Afridi.

He briefly revived hopes with support from Hasan Ali, who added a handy 27. But the mountain was far too steep, and Karachi were eventually bundled out for 136 in the penultimate over.

The final blow came fittingly from Sikandar Raza, who cleaned up Adam Milne with a skidding delivery to cap off a complete bowling effort from Lahore. Raza's 2/13 in 2.1 overs summed up the Qalandars' ruthlessness with the ball.

This commanding win not only hands Lahore two crucial points but also sends a message to the rest of the league. Their balance across departments, from explosive batting to versatile bowling, was on full display. Karachi, meanwhile, will need to reassess their approach, especially their middle order's fragility and lack of clarity in chasing big totals.

As the tournament heats up, Lahore Qalandars appear to be finding form at just the right time - and with performances like this, they've laid down a strong marker for the title race.
