Peshawar Zalmi's clash with Lahore Qalandars at the Gaddafi Stadium in match 14 of PSL 2025 offered a blend of fiery bowling, calculated batting, and a few standout individual performances that left the home crowd stunned. The Qalandars, inserted to bat first, found themselves in early trouble as their top-order collapsed under sustained pressure from the Zalmi pace duo of Alzarri Joseph and Luke Wood.
Sikandar Raza stood tall amidst the ruins, stitching together a fighting 52 off 37 balls. His knock featured occasional brilliance, but the lack of support from the other end rendered his effort largely solitary. Joseph's exceptional middle-over spell, which included a wicket maiden, completely derailed Lahore's ambitions of setting a challenging total.
Luke Wood's two-wicket burst in the powerplay added to the Qalandars' woes, while a chaotic final over-with a run-out and Raza's dismissal-saw Lahore bundled out for just 128 in 19.3 overs.
Zalmi's response wasn't flawless at the outset. Shaheen Shah Afridi charged in with venom, removing Saim Ayub and Tom Kohler-Cadmore early in the chase. His spell of 2 for 22 was a rare highlight for the Qalandars. At 28 for 2 at the end of the powerplay, Zalmi still required over a hundred runs from the remaining 96 balls, but the calm head of Babar Azam took over.
Babar, unruffled by the scoreboard pressure, began rebuilding with Mohammad Haris before forming a pivotal alliance with Hussain Talat. The duo rotated strike smartly, minimising risk while steadily closing in on the target. Babar's trademark elegance was on display, particularly his sublime flicks and cover drives, as he eased his way to a composed half-century.
Talat, meanwhile, brought the aggression when it mattered most. He sent Asif Afridi soaring over midwicket for a six and backed it up with another big hit in the 14th over, shifting the momentum firmly in Zalmi's favour. The 50-run stand between him and Babar ensured the asking rate never spiralled out of control.
With only a few runs left to score, Talat stepped up to finish the game emphatically. Two boundaries in one over off Haris Rauf sealed the deal, capping off an efficient and authoritative performance from Zalmi's middle-order. The partnership between Babar and Talat steadied the innings and underlined Zalmi's depth and composure under pressure.
