PSL 2025: 2017 champions Peshawar Zalmi head into PSL 2025 with a blend of experience, emerging talent and late reshuffles.
With the tournament kicking off on April 11, Zalmi face their first major hurdle even before a ball has been bowled — captain Babar Azam was spotted limping during a practice session in Rawalpindi, casting serious doubts over his availability for the opening clash against Quetta Gladiators on April 12.

While no official medical update has been issued by the franchise, visuals of Babar walking off in discomfort quickly went viral. His presence at the top of the order and as a leader is integral to Zalmi’s chances this season.
However, there's some good news — young star Saim Ayub has rejoined the squad after recovering from a fractured ankle sustained during Pakistan’s tour of South Africa earlier this year. Cleared by PCB’s medical panel, Saim is expected to resume opening duties and will be a vital cog in the batting setup alongside Babar — if the latter is declared fit.
Zalmi also had to navigate overseas exits. South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch pulled out of the season to join Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025. In response, Zalmi brought in George Linde as a full replacement in the Diamond category. Additionally, England pacer Luke Wood has returned to the setup as a partial replacement for Bangladeshi seamer Nahid Rana, whose participation remains uncertain due to national commitments.
Wood, who featured in PSL 2024, offers a left-arm pace option and is expected to strengthen the bowling department alongside Alzarri Joseph, Mohammad Ali, and local talent Arif Yaqoob.
With uncertainty over Babar’s fitness and the late roster shuffles, Zalmi's PSL 2025 campaign could be defined by how quickly their core players settle into rhythm. All eyes now turn to April 12 as they kick off their hunt for a second PSL title.
