“The changes to our combination worked. The way Tom and Haris played helped us get momentum. He didn't bowl well in the previous game but he is someone who has a lot of confidence (talking about Ali Raza). He keeps learning and talking to seniors. Their spinners got turn. I felt I could bowl a spinner in that situation and thankfully it got us a wicket.”
“Expectations were there from me after a good domestic season. According to the situation we wanted to score 200-plus. Pitch was on the slower side and there was grip. Based on the field set, we have to execute.”
“We also wanted to bat. When catches go down, you have to face such things. We're trying to do our best. Haven't lost hope. If you play well, in whatever conditions, then you get the results.”
A high-octane showdown between bat and ball saw Peshawar Zalmi stamp their authority with a ruthless all-round performance, headlined by a fiery debut from Ali Raza. Multan Sultans, chasing an imposing target, were never allowed to settle.
The collapse began early and accelerated with Raza's entry, who wasted no time making an impact. His clever use of pace and angles dismantled the top and middle order, picking up two wickets in his second over to break Multan's back. The double strike - Bracewell and Turner in successive balls - turned the game into a procession.
Usman Khan briefly resisted, playing a few crisp strokes, but lacked support from the other end. Arif Yaqoob's disciplined spell, which included the wicket of a well-set Shai Hope, ensured there was no lower-order fightback. Raza's third spell proved equally lethal as he sent Iftikhar packing with a pinpoint delivery that cramped him for room.
Multan's lower order was left gasping for answers. Joseph's pace rattled Ubaid Shah, while Mitchell Owen took over at the death. He used his variations smartly to snare Willey and Akif, the latter falling to a brilliant diving catch by Abdul Samad.
Earlier, Zalmi had laid the foundation for a commanding outing with a staggering 227-run total. The bowlers carried forward that momentum with relentless pressure and sharp execution. It was a clinical team performance - from top-order fireworks to Raza's explosive debut and Owen's cool finish - that left Multan shell-shocked.
This contest highlighted Zalmi's strength in depth and their ability to deliver under pressure. Raza's heroics will be a lasting memory, a young pacer announcing himself in spectacular fashion. Multan, meanwhile, will be left to reflect on a humbling night where nothing seemed to click.
