Match Summary: Quetta Gladiators Hold Nerve in Thriller

After being sent in to bat first, Quetta Gladiators posted 142 in 19.3 overs, a score that seemed underwhelming given their early collapse. The top order crumbled quickly, with Finn Allen and Rilee Rossouw failing to fire, but a mature innings from Kusal Mendis (36 off 22) and a blistering 43 from Faheem Ashraf gave them a fighting total.

Hasan Ali was Karachi’s pick of the bowlers, finishing with 3 for 33, while Abbas Afridi chipped in with two key wickets.

In response, Karachi Kings began positively despite losing Warner early. Tim Seifert ignited the chase with an explosive 47 off just 26 balls, while James Vince held up one end with a steady 30. But the wheels came off post the 10th over, with Quetta’s spinners putting the brakes on and their fielders backing them up with electric stops.

Abrar Ahmed’s spell of 4-0-15-1 was a masterclass in pressure bowling, while Amir and Khurram Shahzad picked up two wickets apiece. Mendis’ sharp catch to remove the dangerous Seifert proved pivotal.

Despite a valiant late surge from Hasan Ali (24 off 13), the Kings fell short by 5 runs.

Stat Highlights & Talking Points

  • Faheem Ashraf’s knock was the turning point—his late-innings flourish shifted the game’s momentum.
  • Abrar Ahmed’s control in the middle overs choked the run rate and forced false shots.
  • Karachi’s collapse: From 93/2 to 115/8, they lost 6 wickets for just 22 runs.
  • Catches win matches: Mendis’ brilliant diving grab and Rossouw’s safe hands under pressure helped seal the deal.
