PSL 2025: Russell Domingo Replaces Darren Gough as Lahore Qalandars Head Coach Ahead of Season 10

Lahore Qalandars have announced the appointment of Russell Domingo as their head coach for the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) season after Darren Gough withdrew from the role due to "unavoidable personal commitments."

The decision comes as a setback for the Qalandars, who had envisioned Gough leading the franchise into the tournament's tenth edition. Gough had initially been brought in as head coach for the Global Super League in Guyana last year, with the understanding that he would continue in the role for PSL 10.

Despite the team’s group-stage exit in Guyana, Qalandars were impressed with his tactical acumen and saw him as a long-term investment. However, his last-minute withdrawal has left the franchise in a difficult position, though they have expressed their understanding and support for his decision.

In an official statement, Qalandars acknowledged Gough's contributions, saying, "He remains a valued part of the Qalandars family, and we sincerely wish him the very best." While his departure is disappointing for the franchise, they have wasted no time in securing an experienced replacement.

Russell Domingo Steps In

Stepping into the role is Russell Domingo, the highly experienced former head coach of South Africa and Bangladesh. Domingo, who has an extensive coaching résumé at the international level, is looking forward to the challenge of leading Qalandars as they aim for their third PSL title in four years.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Domingo said, "I am really excited to be part of the Lahore Qalandars for the 2025 PSL season. I can't wait to get to work, meet the players and get to know the management and start preparation for what promises to be an amazingly exciting campaign. We know we will have all the support from our faithful supporters and I look forward to making you all proud in the coming weeks."

Qalandars co-owner Sameen Rana also welcomed Domingo to the team, emphasising the value of his international coaching experience. "We are delighted to have Russell Domingo join us as head coach for PSL 10. Russell has vast experience at the international level that makes him an invaluable asset for the Qalandars. We believe his expertise will contribute immensely to our team's success in PSL 10."

PSL 10 Kick-off

The PSL 2025 season is set to commence on April 11, with Lahore Qalandars facing defending champions Islamabad United in Rawalpindi. With Domingo now at the helm, Qalandars will be looking to make a strong statement as they aim to reclaim the title. The franchise’s loyal fanbase will be hoping the new coaching setup can bring stability and guide the team to another triumphant campaign.
