PSL 2025: In what turned out to be an unforgettable night at the Multan Cricket Stadium, Islamabad United skipper Shadab Khan added a historic feather to his cap, becoming just the fourth bowler in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to claim 100 wickets.
The leg-spinning all-rounder reached the milestone during a pulsating clash against Multan Sultans on Wednesday — and he did it in the most dramatic fashion, dismissing the opposition captain, Mohammad Rizwan.

The crowd in Multan was already buzzing with anticipation as two PSL heavyweights locked horns, but when Shadab floated one up and outfoxed Rizwan, the stadium erupted. It was the 14th over of the innings, and Rizwan, batting on 36, was looking set to steer Multan to a commanding total. But Shadab had other ideas.
Rizwan, attempting to loft the ball inside-out, misjudged the flight and failed to get to the pitch. The result? A simple catch pouched by the cover fielder, and a landmark wicket for Shadab. With that dismissal, he joined the elite PSL bowling club, rubbing shoulders with Wahab Riaz, Hasan Ali, and Shaheen Shah Afridi — the only three bowlers before him to breach the three-figure wicket mark in the league’s history.
Shadab’s achievement is no fluke. Since making his PSL debut in 2017, he has been a pivotal figure for Islamabad United — not just as a bowler, but as a leader and a game-changer. In 89 matches, he has now taken 100 wickets at a tidy average of 24.26, with an economy of 7.62. His best figures in the tournament read 5 for 28 — a testament to his match-winning prowess.
| Bowler | Matches | Wickets |
|---|---|---|
| Hasan Ali | 87 | 118 |
| Wahab Riaz | 88 | 113 |
| Shaheen Afridi | 75 | 109 |
| Shadab Khan | 89 | 100 |
| Faheem Ashraf | 75 | 79 |
As for the match itself, the Sultans posted a competitive total of 168/5, navigating a surface that offered a touch of unpredictability. Usman Khan was the standout performer with the bat, anchoring the innings beautifully with a fluent 61 off 40 balls. He found support early on from Yasir Khan, who blazed his way to 29 off just 17 deliveries, giving Multan the brisk start they needed.
Rizwan played the role of sheet anchor with a 37-ball 36, before falling to Shadab — a dismissal that momentarily stalled Multan’s charge. Late fireworks came courtesy of Kamran Ghulam, whose 13 off 6 provided a much-needed boost to the total in the death overs.
Though Multan might have eyed a few more runs, 168 looked like a strong total on a pitch that wasn’t entirely straightforward. With the likes of Ihsanullah and Abbas Afridi waiting in the wings to defend it, the game was still well in the balance.
