PSL Final 2024 Result: Islamabad United Become Three-Time Champions After Beating Multan Sultans In Last-Ball Thriller

PSL Final 2024 Result: The PSL Season 9 Final between Multan Sultans and Islamabad United finished with a stunning win for Multan Sultans over Islamabad United by three wickets at the National Stadium in Karachi on Monday (March 18).

Islamabad claimed the championship in a thriller which went down to the wire. Heartbreak for Multan Sultans and their fans as they lost the third final in a row. They were the best team in the competition but fell short of the final hurdle again.

Conversely, Islamabad United won the title again after six years. Imad Wasim was the MVP for Islamabad, as he picked up 5/23 and scored 19 not out. Shadab couldn't contribute with the bat but took 3/32 with the ball.

Martin Guptill played a knock of 50 off 32 balls in a game which could have gone anywhere. Naseem Shah has emerged as a proper all-rounder as he bowled with an economy rate of 6.20 and played a cameo of 17 off nine balls. Khushdil Shah and Iftikhar Ahmed were the highest wicket-takers for Multan with 2/21 and 2/19.

Multan Sultans won the toss and decided to set the target, given the occasion of the final. The pressure of the championship game was evident on Multan as they lost two wickets in the 2nd over. Then Rizwan and Usman formed a partnership and steadied the ship before Rizwan fell to Shadab at 26.

Usman Khan scored another fifty but got out to Shadab after that. The stage was set after the 15-over mark for an onslaught as they had six wickets in hands. But after the time-out, Sultans lost five wickets just like that in a span of 2 overs.

Imad was the main reason behind this, as he picked up a fifer. Islamabad team were all over the Multan Sultans due to the brilliant bowling performance of Imad and Shadab. However, Iftikhar Ahmed managed to bail them out a little as he played a nice cameo after they were nine wickets down and took his team to a decent total of 159-9 (20 overs).

Islamabad came out to chase the below-par target of 160, but the occasion got to them as they were 61-3 at the halfway stage. However, Guptill and Azam kept the scoreboard ticking initially and then changed gears before Guptill got run out in a mixup. Then, it was anybody's game to win, as it was swinging both ways.

Nevertheless, Imad and Naseem provided the much-needed push to their team as Hunain scored the winning runs and brought the championship home for Islamabad.
