Earlier on Saturday, the PSL's ninth season began with a run-fest between Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars. Lahore was defeated by the men in red as they chased 196 runs in 18.2 overs for two wickets.
Shadab Khan, the captain, scored 74 runs off 41 balls, while Agha Salman scored 64 runs off 31 balls, making them the leaders in the chase. Only seven wickets dropped in the entire encounter, thus there wasn't much opportunity for the bowlers.
And Tymal Mills (2/45) was the biggest wicket-taker; nobody else in the bowling department was able to reach double figures. Bowlers were therefore in for a thrashing.
After winning the toss, United invited the Qalandars to score runs during the inaugural game. The Lahore teams got off to a quick start, scoring 66/0 in the first six overs of a power play. At first, Rassie van der Dussen (71 runs off 41 balls) trailed behind aggressor Sahibzada Farhan (57 runs off 36 balls). With the exception of these two, no one contributed much to the Lahore Qalandars' respectable total of 195/5 in 20 overs.
With a fast start to their chase, Islamabad scored (50/1) in the first six overs. They were well on target. Following Alex Hales's exit (36 runs off 28 balls), Shadab Khan and Agha Salman assumed the lead. They teamed up to win the match and win the game.
