Rachin Ravindra Injury Leads to Fans Criticizing PCB Over Poor Lighting at Gaddafi Stadium

By MyKhel Staff

In a recent ODI tri-series match at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium, New Zealand cricketer Rachin Ravindra sustained a forehead injury, leading to widespread criticism of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over the stadium's lighting conditions.

The incident occurred in the 38th over of Pakistan's innings when Khushdil Shah hit a powerful shot towards deep backward square leg. Ravindra, positioned to make the catch, lost sight of the ball under the floodlights, resulting in the ball striking him on the forehead.

He immediately fell to the ground, bleeding, and was attended to by medical staff before being escorted off the field for further treatment. New Zealand Cricket provided an update, stating, "Ravindra sustained a laceration to the forehead which has been addressed and treated at the ground, but is otherwise well."

They added, "He came through his first HIA well and will continue to be monitored under HIA processes." Following the incident, fans took to social media to express their concerns about the quality of the floodlights at Gaddafi Stadium.

Many blamed the poor lighting for Ravindra's injury and called on the PCB to improve the stadium's infrastructure, especially with the upcoming Champions Trophy in mind. One fan commented, "PCB should improve the Quality of light in the Ground.

Rachin Ravindra misjudges the ball under bad lights and takes a brutal hit near the eye. Hope he recovers soon." Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif also weighed in on the issue, highlighting the challenges posed by LED lights. He noted, "The glow is more in such lights. Hence, when the ball travels flat, you are often unable to see it."

Match Outcome

Despite the unfortunate incident, New Zealand secured a 78-run victory over Pakistan. The Black Caps posted a formidable total of 330/6 in their 50 overs, with significant contributions from Glenn Phillips (an unbeaten 106 off 74 balls), Kane Williamson (58), and Daryl Mitchell (81).

In response, Pakistan was bowled out for 252 in 47.5 overs. Ravindra had earlier contributed a quick 25 runs off 19 balls before being dismissed by Abrar Ahmed. His injury has raised concerns about his availability for the remainder of the series, with ongoing monitoring under Head Injury Assessment protocols.
