New Delhi, Sep 19: Former India head coach Rahul Dravid has expressed his confidence in his successor, Gautam Gambhir, believing that the former opener will excel in his new role.
Dravid, who led India to the ICC T20 World Cup title earlier this year, praised Gambhir's experience and ability as a coach, stating that the national team will benefit significantly from his leadership.

Speaking at the launch event of 'Roombr,' a digital classroom provider, Dravid was full of optimism for Gambhir's tenure, which officially began during India's tour of Sri Lanka in July-August 2024. Gambhir has taken over the coaching reins from Dravid, who stepped down after a successful period that saw India reach the finals of both the ODI World Cup and the World Test Championship.
"He (Gambhir) has got a lot of experience, both as a player and a coach. He has played at the highest level for many years, and he's coached quite a bit. I'm sure he will be great in his role," Dravid remarked. "In any situation, everyone brings their own experience and knowledge to the table, and I'm confident the team will benefit from everything that Gautam brings to them."
Gambhir's extensive career, which included match-winning knocks in two World Cup finals, coupled with his leadership roles in the IPL, positions him well to guide India in this crucial phase. He has always been known for his tactical acumen and fearless approach, traits that should serve him well as a coach.
India has embarked on a busy Test season under Gambhir's guidance, with the team scheduled to play 10 Test matches over the next four months. This includes a two-match series against Bangladesh, three matches against New Zealand, and a five-match series in Australia - one of the toughest challenges for any coach.
Dravid acknowledged the challenges ahead but reiterated his belief that Gambhir's presence would have a positive impact on the team. "Every coach brings something different. I'm sure Gambhir, with his understanding of the game and his ability to connect with players, will help the team grow."
At the close of play on day one of the opening Test between India and Bangladesh at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, the Indian cricket team scored 339 for the loss of 6 wickets in 80 overs. Ravichandran Ashwin (102*) and Ravindra Jadeja (86*) revived the home side from a precarious situation with their record stand of 195 for the seventh wicket.
