Rahul Dravid, the former coach of Indian cricket team, is set to make his comeback at the Rajasthan Royals. The former Rajasthan Royals head coach received the team's official jersey from CEO Jake Lush McCrum on Friday, September 6.
Kumar Sangakkara has been in-charge of the team since 2021 as the Director of Cricket. The Rajasthan Royals in one of their posts also confirmed that Dravid was now the new head coach of Rajasthan Royals, while Sangakkara would continue as the Director of Cricket.

“After the World Cup, I feel it's the ideal time for me to take on another challenge, and the Royals is the perfect place to do that”, Dravid said.
Earlier, reports suggested that Kumar Sangakkara could move to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as their mentor. The post at KKR is vacant after Gautam Gambhir was appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. Reports also suggested that Vikram Rathour, who was part of Rahul Dravid's coaching staff in the Indian national team, will also be joining Rajasthan Royals as a coach for the upcoming season.
Rahul Dravid was the captain of Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2012 and 2013, and also served as team's director and mentor in 2014 and 2015. Later he moved to Delhi Capitals, and then became the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The former India captain has also served as the coach of India U-19 and India A between 2015 to 2019.
Dravid shares a long-standing relationship with Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson, who came through U-19 cricket under the watch of Rahul Dravid, and was also part of India's 2024 T20 World Cup-winning team coached by the former great.
