Rajasthan Royals collapse for 103: Mumbai Indians need 104 for win

Mumbai, May 7 (UNI) A superb bowling display by the Mumbai Indians today restricted the Rajasthan Royals to a paltry 103 all out in 16.2 overs in the DLF Indian Premier League match being played at the D Y Patil stadium, Nerul, near here.

Put into bat, Rajasthan Royals were in trouble from the first over itself with Shaun Pollock and Ashish Nehra grabbing a wicket each in their first spell to leave the visitors tottering at 21 for two in the fourth over.

After an uneventful opening two overs from Pollock and Nehra, Mumbai Indians struck in the third over when Graeme Smith charged Pollock only to miss the ball. Yogesh Takawale standing up fumbled with the ball but effected the stumping on the second attempt.

In the next over Yusuf Pathan was sent back by Ashish Nehra as the batsman tried a mighty cross batted swipe only to miss the ball and see his stumps being uprooted.

However, the diminutive opener Swapnil Asnodkar was joined by Shane Watson and the two began the repair work of the innings.

Asnodkar started the assault striking two consecutive fours of Pollock's third over.

Watson then gave the treatment to youngster Dhaval Kulkarni greeting the medium pacer with a flicked boundary and then the next ball he send sailing into the stands for a huge six over long on.

Asnodkar then helped himself to a six over long on as Kulkarni gave away 17 runs in his first over.

Watson and Asnodkar put on 53 runs for the third wicket before the former tried to play across the line a delivery from Bravo missed it and was bowled for 32. He made his runs after facing 20 deliveries with three boundaries and a six with Rajasthan Royal on 74 for three.

Mumbai Indians then ran through the batting order as they lost their last seven wickets for just runs with Ashish Nehra picking up three wickets. Yogesh Takawale behind the wickets had an astounding match with three catches and a stumping as the Mumbai Indians fielders backed up their bowlers to restrict the Rajasthan Royals to just runs.

Swapnil Asnodkar with 39 in 36 balls with three fours and a six tried to get the Rajasthan Royals out of trouble but with wickets tumbling at the other end he also could not rescue them.

Nehra with three for 13 in three overs was the pick of the bowlers and he was well supported by Dhaval Kulkarni who came back well after giving away 17 runs in his first two overs to end with two for 21 in three overs and Rohan Raje and Dwayne Bravo also picking up two wickets a piece.
