Ramiz Raja's hilarious 'HBL IPL' goof up trolled by fans on social media
Cricket, especially in the subcontinent, is often a blend of passion and drama -- both on and off the field. And sometimes, it gifts us moments of pure entertainment, courtesy of an unexpected gaffe.
This time, it was former Pakistan captain and cricket commentator Ramiz Raja who stole the limelight with a comical goof-up during a Pakistan Super League (PSL) post-match presentation.

Following the high-scoring thriller between Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars, Ramiz, who was hosting the presentation ceremony, invited Joshua Little to collect the "Catch of the Match" award. All was going smoothly - until Ramiz accidentally referred to it as the "Catch of the IPL" instead of PSL. The slip of tongue sent the audience, viewers, and the internet into a frenzy.
With both the IPL and PSL happening simultaneously, it's understandable that even seasoned pundits like Ramiz might get momentarily tongue-tied. But social media rarely misses a beat - and fans were quick to seize the moment with memes, jokes, and cheeky remarks.
One tweet sarcastically read: "HBL PSL ❌ HBL IPL ✅ Best Catch of the 'HBL IPL' ~ Ramiz Raja does it again 😅"
Another fan quipped: "Even in their wildest of dreams, IPL is better than PSL. Ramiz Raja mispronounces 'HBL IPL' instead of 'HBL PSL' in post-match presentation."
And then there were the inevitable meme reactions with captions like "Ramiz Raja be like:" followed by video clips and GIFs that perfectly captured the secondhand embarrassment and amusement many experienced watching the moment.
While the comment was clearly accidental, some fans in Pakistan took it more seriously and called for an apology, arguing that such a mix-up undermines the PSL's identity. However, most took it in good humour, appreciating the light-hearted slip in the heat of back-to-back cricketing action.
As for the match itself, Multan Sultans continued their solid run, defeating Lahore Qalandars by 33 runs. Batting first, the Sultans posted a mammoth 228 on the board, thanks to Yasir Khan's blistering 87 off 44 balls. Iftikhar Ahmed's quick 40 off 18 further strengthened the total.
Lahore Qalandars, despite a fighting 50 from Sikandar Raza, could only manage 195/9 in their 20 overs. The defeat pushed them further down the table, while Multan looked increasingly like playoff favourites.
Meanwhile, Ramiz's gaffe may not have changed the course of the match, but it definitely provided a moment of comic relief. Whether it was a simple verbal slip or a subconscious nod to IPL's global pull, one thing is for sure - cricket fans will be talking about "HBL IPL" at a PSL game for quite some time.
