Abhimanyu Easwaran continues to stake his claim for a spot in the Indian Test side after smashing his fourth consecutive first-class century on Monday, October 14.
Playing for Bengal in their Ranji Trophy 2024-25 opener against Uttar Pradesh in Lucknow, the 29-year-old opener scored a brilliant 127 off 172 balls in the second innings. This marked his latest in a series of dominant performances across multiple competitions, having notched centuries in the Duleep Trophy and Irani Cup as well.

Easwaran's form has been nothing short of remarkable. His recent string of centuries began with a ton in the second round of the Duleep Trophy, followed by another in the third round. He then delivered an impressive 191-run knock against Mumbai in the prestigious Irani Cup.
Overall, Easwaran has accumulated over 7500 runs in 98 first-class matches at an average of just under 50, with 27 centuries. His ability to pile on runs consistently in domestic cricket has drawn attention, especially as India gears up for a crucial Test series against Australia later this year.
Easwaran has been on the fringes of the Indian Test team for a while, most recently serving as a standby player in the series against South Africa in 2023. However, he has yet to debut for India despite his prolific form in India A tours and domestic competitions.
However, his recent performances have made him a prime candidate for India A's upcoming shadow series against Australia A, scheduled to begin on October 31. Should he continue to perform at this level, his case for a spot in the senior Indian side will be hard to ignore.
The ongoing Border-Gavaskar series against Australia presents a golden opportunity for Easwaran. With Indian captain Rohit Sharma potentially missing one of the Tests due to personal reasons, Easwaran could be considered as a backup opener alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Fans will be eager to see if Easwaran makes the cut, as the BCCI is yet to announce the final squad list. Meanwhile, Australia announced their squad for the upcoming series, with Nathan McSweeney leading the side comprising veteran players such as Cameron Bancroft, Scott Boland, and Michael Neser.
