The Bengal cricket team has announced its squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy matches, with experienced batter Anustup Majumdar appointed as the captain for the initial two rounds.
The team is set to face Uttar Pradesh in Lucknow for their opening match, followed by a home game against Bihar. This marks a significant phase in Bengal's campaign, as they aim to make a strong start to the season.

Notably, the team welcomes back senior players Wriddhiman Saha and Sudip Chatterjee, who return after their time with Tripura. Their presence is expected to bolster the squad with invaluable experience and skill. Additionally, off-spinner Aamir Gani rejoins the Bengal side, making a notable return to first-class cricket after his last appearance in 2019. The inclusion of these players has generated optimism around Bengal's prospects for the forthcoming matches, set to commence on October 11.
Although India pacer Mohammed Shami confirmed his wish to play for Bengal in the Ranji, he still hasn't recovered from his fresh injury and has been left out from the squad. Although Shami is not in the team, his brother Mohammad Kaif is named in the Bengal team for the first two matches.
Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar have been picked in the squad and are likely to feature in the first two matches. Akash Deep recently featured for India against Bangladesh and will be aiming to be a part of the team against New Zealand and then the subsequent tour of Australia.
