Ranji Trophy: Shreyas Iyer out for duck, Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane also fail in Vadodara

By MyKhel Staff

Ranji Trophy: Senior Mumbai batter Shreyas Iyer was dismissed for a duck in Mumbai's opening Ranji Trophy match against Baroda at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.

After opting to bat first, Baroda scored 290 runs in 103.1 overs. Spinners Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian, who starred in Mumbai's Irani Cup win against Rest of India recently, picked seven wickets together.

But hosts Baroda also made life difficult for star Mumbai batters later. Prithvi Shaw was clean bowled by captain Krunal Pandya for seven off 27, Ajinkya Rahane (29) fell to left-arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt. Shreyas Iyer was also dismissed by Bhatt for an eight-ball duck.

In his last nine red-ball appearances, Shreyas Iyer has been dismissed for duck three times, and two more times inside 10 runs on a single-digit score. The 29-year-old has been out of the Indian Test team since February this year.

Likewise, Prithvi Shaw last played a Test match for India in December 2020. Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane is also out of the Indian Test team from July 2023.

Mumbai were 169/6 at one stage but another India international Shardul Thakur scored 27 off 39 to take them past the 200-run mark. Mumbai conceded a 76-run lead in the first innings, and will now look to bounce back in the second innings. They are the reigning Ranji Trophy and Irani Cup champions.

Ishan Kishan also fails to impress in first Ranji Trophy 2024-2025 outing

Further, Jharkhand captain Ishan Kishan also failed to impress in his first Ranji Trophy outing of the season. He was dismissed by Assam pacer Mukhtar Hussain for 21 off 32 in Guwahati.
