Siddharth Desai delivered a masterclass in spin bowling on Thursday, claiming an astonishing 9-36 in a Ranji Trophy clash against Uttarakhand at the Gujarat College Cricket Ground A in Ahmedabad.
This sensational performance not only dismantled the opposition but also set a new benchmark for Gujarat cricket, surpassing the previous best of 8-31 by Rakesh Vinubhai Dhurv in 2012.

The left-arm spinner's dominance was evident from the start. Entering the attack in the fifth over, Desai struck in devastating fashion, taking three wickets in just four deliveries to leave Uttarakhand reeling. His relentless assault continued as he picked up a five-wicket haul by the 15th over, removing Kunal Chandela and Mayank Mishra in quick succession.
Uttarakhand's resistance revolved around opener Avneesh Sudha, who top-scored with 30 runs. However, even he couldn't escape Desai's grasp as the spinner trapped him late in the innings. With precision and guile, Desai went on to claim the final three wickets, leaving Uttarakhand bowled out for a mere 111 runs in just 30 overs. The only wicket not claimed by Desai fell to Vishal B Jayswal, who cleaned up the final batter to close out the innings.
Desai's remarkable spell not only won Gujarat the day but also earned him a place in the annals of Indian domestic cricket. His nine-wicket haul stands as one of the finest bowling performances in recent memory, drawing comparisons to other iconic feats in first-class cricket.
Siddharth Desai's bowling figure is now the 3rd best in the history of Ranji Trophy. Haryana's Anshul Kamboj registered the best spell of Ranji history when he picked up all ten wickets against Kerala earlier this season.
