Rare sight at Ashes 2015: India-Pakistan umpiring partnership in 4th Test

Nottingham (England), Aug 6: One of the rarest sights was witnessed today during the 4th Ashes Test between England and Australia here as India and Pakistan umpires officiated together.

India's S Ravi and Aleem Dar of Pakistan walked out onto the Trent Bridge ground to stand in the 4th Ashes Test, which got under way today. England captain Alastair Cook won the toss and invited Australia to bat first.

49-year-old Ravi was recently promoted to the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires while 47-year-old Dar is a veteran in Test umpiring. So far, Dar has stood in 97 Tests (including today's) while Ravi has officiated in 8 five-day matches.

Ravi made his Test umpiring debut in October 2013, standing in Bangladesh-New Zealand match in Chittagong. Dar's first Test assignment was in October 2003 in Bangladesh-England game in Dhaka.

According to reports, this is only the 5th instance in Test history that India-Pakistan umpiring pair was standing together. The last time was in December 2009 in Durban when Dar and Amiesh Saheba officiated in South Africa-England Test.
