Rashid Khan Achieves Embarrassing Feat, Concedes Expensive Spell In The Hundred History

By MyKhel Staff

In a stunning display of batting brilliance, England middle-order batter Liam Livingstone put Oval Invincibles' star bowler Rashid Khan under immense pressure in Tuesday's Hundred clash.

Livingstone's performance during a critical phase of Phoenix's chase left the Afghan spinner reeling and set new records in the tournament's history.

The defining moment came in a five-ball stretch between the 76th and 80th deliveries, where Livingstone went on an absolute rampage. He cleared the ropes for three consecutive sixes, sandwiched between boundaries on either side, leaving Rashid unable to find his usual line and length.

The deliveries from the usually precise spinner floated up, perfectly allowing Livingstone to execute his favorite slog repeatedly. The batter remained unbeaten on 69 off just 27 balls, steering Phoenix to a four-wicket victory in 98 balls.

Rashid's figures from his 20-ball spell read a shocking 0/59, marking both the worst 20-ball spell in the Hundred's history and his most expensive T20-equivalent performance. Notably, Livingstone also became the first batter to score over 200 T20 runs against Rashid, a milestone no other player has reached, with the next highest tally being below 150.

The slump in Rashid's form can be traced back to his back surgery after the 2023 World Cup. The bowler recently acknowledged the challenges he faced in rushing back into competitive cricket.

"In T20s, it's fine - you can manage yourself - but for the longer formats, I was advised that you should be away from that format for some time. That is the kind of mistake I have made. But the team needed that. At that time, we had lost a few games in Test cricket, but that's something where I rushed myself a little bit, and I didn't give myself time and I felt it later on. Yes, I think I have done a mistake where my body was not allowing me that and I'm facing a problem. The thing is the stiffness in your back doesn't allow you to go with full rhythm."

Livingstone's extraordinary innings not only secured a crucial victory for Phoenix but also highlighted the fine margins in T20 cricket, where form, fitness, and timing can dramatically influence the outcome.

Rashid's misfortune underscored the lasting effects of injury and the importance of managing workload, while Livingstone's display reinforced his reputation as one of the most destructive middle-order batters in the shortest format. Fans were treated to an unforgettable spectacle of power-hitting that will linger in the minds of cricket enthusiasts for a long time.
