Rashid Khan, the premier Afghanistan spinner, is set to be reappointed as the captain of a Mumbai Indians franchise in the upcoming year.
Rashid, who has been a stalwart in the T20 format, has an ocean of experience and will lead the MI team in the upcoming SA20 tournament in 2025.

With the third season of the SA20 set to kick off on January 9, all eyes are on MI Cape Town's revamped lineup, now strengthened by Rashid Khan's inclusion. The team, which previously faced challenges and ended up at the bottom of the points table, is looking to turn its fortunes around.
Rashid was the captain of MI Cape Town in the inaugural season, but missed out the SA20 in 2024 due to an injury. Rashid's arrival is seen as a significant boost for MI Cape Town, especially after the team lacked his presence in their bowling arsenal last season.
Under Rashid Khan's captaincy, MI Cape Town has boasted a formidable team, including cricket heavyweights like Ben Stokes, Trent Boult, and emerging talents such as Ryan Rickelton and Dewald Brevis.
The team's bowling unit, featuring Boult, Kagiso Rabada, and Nuwan Thushara alongside Rashid, is expected to be a key factor in their quest for the SA20 title. In the first two seasons, the MI franchise finished at the foot of the points table, which warrants a radical change in the upcoming edition of the tournament.
Rashid has been a key figure in the IPL as well. Although he has never played for Mumbai Indians, the 26-year-old has 149 wickets in IPL in 121 matches. He started his journey with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2017 and has been donning the Gujarat Titans jersey since IPL 2022.
