Rashid Latif Lashes Out At 'Dubai Boys' Wasim Akhtar & Waqar Younis, Says ''They Will Do Anything For Money''

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has launched a scathing attack on legendary fast bowlers Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis following Pakistan's disastrous ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign.

Entering the tournament as defending champions, Pakistan endured a humiliating exit without securing a single win-losing to New Zealand and India before their final group-stage match against Bangladesh was washed out.

While Akram and Younis, who were stationed in Dubai for their broadcasting duties, openly criticized the team's performance, Latif fired back, blaming the influence of 90s-era players for Pakistan cricket's struggles.

"It took 17 years for Pakistan to win another World Cup because the 90s players did not spare Pakistan cricket," Latif said. "Keep 90s players away from management and from the team as well, then they will try to win."

The former wicketkeeper didn't hold back, sarcastically suggesting it was time for the legendary cricketers to step aside. "They have been serving Pakistan cricket for so long now. So, I think they should rest now," he remarked.

Taking a dig at Akram and Younis, Latif pointed to their past rivalry and its negative impact on Pakistan cricket. "Dubai boys have created a ruckus," he stated on his podcast.

"They are happy praising each other. They fought throughout their career, which hurt Pakistan cricket...interesting people," he added in a very sarcastic manner.

Latif further accused them of prioritizing money over the game's best interests. "Throw money in front of them and they will do anything," he said.

After the Champions Trophy debacle, the Men in Green have now played three consecutive ICC events, where they have failed to cross the first round. The other tournaments include the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup.

As Pakistan look to regroup from their Champions Trophy disappointment, they are set to tour New Zealand for a three-match ODI and five-match T20I series under new captain Salman Ali Agha, starting on the 16th of the month.
