VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag lead Indian Cricket Fraternity To Mourn Demise of Ratan Tata

Mumbai, Oct 9: In a heartbreaking news Ratan Naval Tata, the chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, breathed his last at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday (October 9). He was 86.

The doyen of the Indian industry sector Ratan Tata was known for his visionary leadership and philanthropic efforts. He left behind a legacy that touched not only the business world but also the sports fraternity. Cricket, where the Tata Group has been a significant contributor, is also the official title sponsor of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The loss of Ratan Tata has reverberated across various sectors, with the Indian cricketing fraternity joining the nation in mourning his demise. Known for his humble demeanour, far-reaching impact, and relentless drive for innovation and integrity, Tata's life has been an inspiration to millions. His influence on Indian cricket, through Tata Group's association with the IPL, was also profound.

Cricketers, both past and present, took to social media to express their sorrow and admiration for the towering figure. Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman led the tributes, posting on X (formerly Twitter): "End of an era as one of the greats of our country, Shri Ratan Tata Ji passes away. He will always be remembered for his invaluable contribution to our country and for being such an incredible role model. Heartfelt condolences to all his well-wishers and admirers all around the world. Om Shanti."

Joining Laxman in paying respects, former India pacer Dodda Ganesh shared his sentiments on X, saying, "You were an absolute doyen. Thanks for everything, sir. Rest in peace #RatanTata."

Ratan Tata, who led the Tata Group from 1991 to 2012, was renowned for his visionary leadership, guiding the conglomerate to global recognition while staying committed to ethical business practices.

His contribution to the sporting world was not limited to corporate sponsorships; his philanthropic efforts through the Tata Trusts extended to grassroots sports development, which has been lauded by many.

Virender Sehwag, another former India cricketer, honoured Tata's legacy with an emotional message on X, writing, "We have lost a true Ratan of Bharat, Shri Ratan Tata ji. His life will be an inspiration for us all and he will continue to live in our hearts. Om Shanti."

Irfan Pathan, former India all-rounder, echoed similar sentiments, posting, "Deeply saddened by the loss of Shri Ratan Tata ji. He wasn't just a business leader, but a true inspiration for millions. His dedication, integrity, and impact on India's growth are unmatched. We've lost a giant, but his legacy will endure forever. Rest in peace."

The outpouring of tributes continued with former India batsman Robin Uthappa reflecting on Tata's leadership, "Saddened to hear about the passing of Shri #RatanTata. Thank you for showing us what it means to lead with integrity & compassion. Rest in peace, Sir 🙏 #Gratitude."

Yusuf Pathan, who has since ventured into politics, also paid homage, remarking, "Heartfelt condolences on the passing of Shri. Ratan Tata Ji. His remarkable leadership, global acquisitions, and philanthropic efforts have made a lasting impact on millions of lives. His legacy will forever inspire us. Rest in peace."

Ratan Tata's passing marks the end of an era, but his legacy-whether in business, philanthropy, or sports will continue to inspire generations to come. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi aptly stated, "One of the most unique aspects of Shri Ratan Tata Ji was his passion towards dreaming big and giving back. He was at the forefront of championing causes like education, healthcare, sanitation, and animal welfare."
