Ravichandran Ashwin Announced Retirement Due To 'Breach Of Trust' During BGT? Report Makes Huge Claim

By MyKhel Staff

Ravichandran Ashwin's retirement from international cricket came as a big shock to everyone as he called it a day even before the Gabba Test came to an end. It surely did raise eyebrows and many doubts on the minds of the fans for sure.

Now, a big report claims that Ashwin's massive decision came after a series of events that led to growing frustration and disappointment.

Ravichandran Ashwin

Days before his exit, Ashwin had reportedly inquired with the Indian team management about his chances of playing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. As per a report by CricBlogger, the 38-year-old made it clear to the management that if he wasn't part of the plans, he wouldn't travel to Australia.

"If he wasn't in the scheme of things for the team, he won't travel to Australia," the team source revealed.

The report added that the management assured him he would play and there was no question of dropping him. However, despite these assurances, Ashwin was dropped from the first Test in Perth, a decision that didn't sit well with him.

"This wasn't the right thing to do after the team had assured him of a secured place. He shouldn't have been treated like that," the source further added.

He did play in the Adelaide Test but Ashwin's disappointment intensified, when he was omitted from the second Test in Brisbane, even after Rohit Sharma had returned from paternity leave. This was the breaking point for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) man, who felt betrayed by the team management, especially after the promises made to him.

"It is like ridiculing a legend of a bowler," the Team insider concluded.

His sense of being 'mistreated' led him to announce his retirement before the end of the Test series as per the report and raise a plethora of questions with his relationship with coach Gautam Gambhir as well.

On the other hand, no matter what actually transpired, a legend of his caliber deserved a better treatment and a grand farewell.
