Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin called it a day from international cricket after the conclusion of the third Test against Australia in Brisbane on Wednesday.
He shared this decision during the post-match press conference alongside captain Rohit Sharma after the game ended in a draw.

Ashwin had participated in the second Test of the five-match series in Adelaide but was replaced by Ravindra Jadeja for the Brisbane encounter.
The 38-year-old will now go down as one of the greatest Indian spinners of all-time and he finished his career in style by ranking among the top 10 leading wicket takers in the history of Test cricket.

Ashwin is only the second Indian in this elite list after Anil Kumble with 537 wickets in 106 matches. Before his retirement, he used to be the leading wicket-taker in Tests among the active cricketers.
The Tamil Nadu man not only leaves behind an extraordinary legacy but also sets a high standard for the younger generation aiming to step into his role. He led India's bowling attack with distinction, playing a pivotal role in the team's ascent to the top of the Test rankings and their dominance in red-ball cricket between 2014 and 2019.
His brilliance in home conditions was unparalleled, where he consistently delivered match-winning performances. Beyond his bowling, Ashwin also made valuable contributions with the bat, showcasing his all-round abilities.
Rumors of Ashwin's retirement began swirling on Day 5 of the Brisbane Test after cameras captured a poignant moment of Virat Kohli embracing him during a rain break. Ashwin was also seen engaging in an emotional chat with Australian spinner Nathan Lyon. Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar alluded to the possibility during a live commentary, a speculation that Ashwin later confirmed himself.
He will continue to play club-level cricket and will also be seen in the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League as well.
