Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has voiced his concerns regarding the deteriorating state of Pakistan cricket, pointing to leadership instability and poor team performance. Ashwin, who recently won the Player of the Series award in the Test series against Bangladesh.
Ashwin shared his thoughts in a viral video circulating on social media. "Honestly, I feel sorry seeing the current state and phase Pakistan cricket is in," Ashwin said, highlighting that the situation is disappointing, particularly given Pakistan's rich cricketing history.

According to him, Pakistan has produced many legendary cricketers and has always been a proud cricketing nation. However, the frequent changes in leadership and the lack of stability within the team have created uncertainty.
Ashwin specifically pointed out the inconsistency in captaincy, comparing it to a game of "musical chairs." He referenced the recent shifts in Pakistan's leadership following their exit from the 2023 World Cup.
After Babar Azam stepped down as captain, Shaheen Afridi briefly assumed the role, only for Babar to be reinstated in limited-overs cricket. Subsequently, Shan Masood was appointed as the Test captain.
Reflecting on the instability, Ashwin said, "And sometimes the musical chair situation that they go through is something. Think that the music keeps playing and all they are thinking about is grabbing that chair."
The Indian spinner believes these leadership changes have impacted the players' focus, causing them to prioritize individual performance over the success of the team. "When there's so much instability in the dressing room, then every cricketer will begin to start focusing on self, rather than the team," Ashwin noted.
Ashwin also pointed to Pakistan's struggles in red-ball cricket, particularly their failure to win a Test match on home soil in nearly three years. "I think it's almost been 3 years," he added, expressing concern over the team's inability to secure victories in their own conditions.
Pakistan's disappointing performance continued in their recent two-match Test series against Bangladesh, where they suffered defeats in both games at Rawalpindi. The team, now under the leadership of Shan Masood, is set to face England in a three-match Test series starting on October 7 in Multan.
