Ravichandran Ashwin to Shikhar Dhawan - India players who have Retired in 2024

A gigantic career ended on Wednesday (December 18) as Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket. After the conclusion of the 3rd Test in Brisbane against Australia, Ashwin arrived at the post-match press conference and revealed his decision.

A stellar player, Ashwin has put a strong mark on the pages of world cricket. But along with Ashwin, a number of Indian players have now retired from cricket in 2024. The off-spinner from Chennai has become the 12th player to have shut off completely from international cricket, and the list goes to 15 introducing partial retirements.

1. Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin, a distinguished off-spinner, retired from international cricket on December 18, 2024, following the third Test against Australia in Brisbane. Over his illustrious career, Ashwin took 537 Test wickets, making him India's second-highest wicket-taker in the format. He also played 116 One-Day Internationals and 65 Twenty20 Internationals, amassing a total of 765 wickets across all formats. Renowned for his mastery of the 'carrom ball,' Ashwin was also a capable Test all-rounder, with six centuries to his name.

2. Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan, the left-handed opener, announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket on August 24, 2024, at the age of 38. Debuting for India in 2010, Dhawan was particularly successful in 50-over matches, scoring 24 international centuries. He excelled in significant tournaments such as the Champions Trophy, Asia Cup, and the 2015 World Cup. Notably, he made history with the fastest hundred by a debutant in a Test match against Australia in 2013.

3. Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik, a versatile wicketkeeper-batter, announced his retirement from international cricket on November 15, 2024. Karthik made his debut for India in 2004 and was known for his adaptability across formats. Along with that, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja also announced their retirement from T20I cricket after winning the T20 World Cup in West Indies. Rohit, bowed out of the T20 format after becoming the third Indian captain to win the World Cup.
