'RCB and their love for Virat Kohli': Ravichandran Ashwin points out what makes Bengaluru franchise fanbase special

By Sushruta Bhattacharjee

Virat Kohli's name has long been synonymous with the Royal Challengers Bangalore, and his national teammate Ravichandran Ashwin praised the RCB fans for showing immense loyalty to their team and former captain.

Leading the team as captain from 2013 to 2021, Virat Kohli guided RCB through numerous ups and downs. Despite failing to secure an IPL title, his individual performances have been nothing short of remarkable.

Virat Kohli RCB fans

Kohli's performances have brought him a wave of support from the RCB fans, considered among the most passionate fan bases in the IPL. The loyalty shown by RCB fans was the topic of discussion on Ravi Ashwin's YouTube channel.

"RCB fans love Virat Kohli. So many get depressed seeing the trolling going on social media, but RCB is a god-gifted franchise with the most loyal fanbase," Ashwin said in the video. "Their fans always stood by them, RCB is one of the most consistent teams in the last 10 years."

Virat Kohli's achievements in IPL as RCB skipper

As a captain, Kohli has led RCB to multiple playoff finishes, including a runner-up finish in 2016, where Kohli scored a record-breaking 973 runs in a single season. He has also been dominant with his individual performances, becoming the first and only IPL player to score 7000 runs.

However, Virat and RCB's failure to end their IPL trophy drought has made the pair a target of trolling from rival fans. Recently, CSK fans jumped on the troll bandwagon after RCB's loss against Rajasthan Royals in the eliminator round of IPL 2024.

After years of near-misses in the IPL, Kohli stepped down as RCB's captain in 2021, with Faf du Plessis taking over. However, with du Plessis turning 40 and suffering from niggling injuries, Kohli took over the captaincy for large parts of the last IPL season.

With the mega-auction for IPL 2025 reportedly taking place on or after November this year, RCB fans will be eager to see if Virat Kohli makes a comeback as the skipper and can finally lead RCB to its maiden IPL title.
