RCB announce Financial Compensation for 11 Deceased in Stampede, Launch new initiative for Injured Fans

Royal Challengers Bengaluru's victory celebration turned into tragedy as 11 people lost their lives in a stampede in Bengaluru on Wednesday (June 4).

Over 200,000 fans gathered at a venue meant for 35,000, leading to overcrowding, chaos, and the tragic death of 11 people, including a child, with over 50 injured. The situation worsened when fans rushed the limited entry points at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, causing a stampede.

The open-bus celebration was immediately cancelled, and authorities launched a probe. This tragedy underscores long-standing lapses in crowd control at major cricket events in India. Public outrage followed, with criticism of both event planners and local authorities for failing to anticipate the scale of turnout.

On Thursday, RCB have announced a compensation package for the deceased, while the franchise has also announced the launching of a fundraiser named 'RCB Cares' for the injured fans.

"The unfortunate incident in Bengaluru yesterday has caused a lot of anguish and pain to the RCB family. As a mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity, RCB has announced a financial support of INR 10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased. In addition, a fund called RCB Cares is also being created to support fans injured in this tragic incident. Our fans will always remain at the heart of everything that we do. We remain united in grief," a statement from RCB read.

Earlier, the Karnataka government also announced a financial compensation for the deceased, and took full care of medical expenses for the injured people. The incident has garnered widespread attention as sectors have found the Karnataka state government culpable for the incident.
