RCB's Chinnaswamy Stadium to be Moved Away? Possible Destinations as Karnataka CM ponders Switch

By MyKhel Staff

After the horrific stampede which took 11 lives, the fate of M Chinnaswamy Stadium is hanging in the balance.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru's victory celebrations after the IPL 2025 triumph turned tragic as a stampede killed 11 people, all in their teens and early adult ages. The shocking incident bored from multiple lapses, which has already prompted action.

Chinnaswamy Stadium

The Karnataka state government removed many officials, while KSCA secretary and treasurer also stepped down. Amid this, the Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has hinted that the M Chinnaswamy Stadium can be shifted to a new location.

The Chief Minister stated, “The government is seriously considering relocating Bengaluru's cricket stadium to a safer location.”

He emphasized that the incident had triggered a thorough review of sporting infrastructure, particularly in terms of crowd control and public safety.

Why Relocation of Chinnaswamy Stadium is being Considered?

  • Overcapacity Issues: The stadium, which holds around 40,000, was overwhelmed by a crowd estimated to be more than double that number during the celebration.
  • Urban Constraints: Chinnaswamy is hemmed in by major roads, Cubbon Park, and restricted-use military lands. This leaves little room for expansion, emergency infrastructure, or evacuation routes.

Where can be M Chinnaswamy Stadium Relocated?

While no official decision has been made, several locations stand out as logical candidates for the relocation of Bengaluru’s primary cricket stadium, which hosts RCB in the IPL matches.

1. Devanahalli–Airport Corridor

This area offers vast land availability and is well-connected through expanding expressways, metro plans, and proximity to Kempegowda International Airport. However, it remains distant from the city centre, and public transport systems must rapidly evolve to make it viable for high-volume events.

2. Yelahanka–Hebbal Suburb

This northern belt of Bengaluru is developing into a strategic urban extension, with future metro connectivity and residential-commercial expansion. It strikes a balance between distance and accessibility but may face congestion during major events unless supported by coordinated transit planning.

3. Peripheral Model Based on Tumakuru

Mirroring the stadium being developed in Tumakuru, a satellite-city model could help reduce stress on the city’s core. This would require seamless logistics and inter-city connectivity to ensure fans remain engaged despite the distance.

4. Bangalore Turf Club Area

The Turf Club occupies a large, underutilized land parcel near the city’s central zone. With redevelopment already under consideration, converting this area into a world-class cricketing venue could be an efficient solution.

5. Mysore Road / Nayandahalli Zone

Located on the city’s western flank, this area offers potential for infrastructural development. With several ongoing projects and access to arterial roads, it could serve as an accessible yet less congested alternative if planned properly.

Note: These Destinations are assumptions and the reality can be different from them. Kindly don't assume these as official destination for Chinnaswamy Relocation
