RCB IPL 2025 Playoff Scenario: How can Royal Challengers Bengaluru Qualify as Top Two Teams?

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have continued their merry run in the IPL 2025, this time with a thrilling win over Chennai Super Kings on Saturday (May 3).

Following their victory over CSK, Royal Challengers Bengaluru have significantly bolstered their position in the IPL 2025 standings. With 16 points from 11 matches and a commendable Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.603, RCB are currently leading the points table.

RCB IPL 2025 Playoff Scenario

RCB IPL 2025 Playoff Qualification

Historically, accumulating 16 points has been sufficient for playoff qualification in a 10-team IPL format. Given RCB's current standing and NRR, their qualification is nearly assured. However, to eliminate any mathematical uncertainties, securing at least one more win in their remaining three matches would solidify their spot in the top four. But at this moment, barring some unbelievable changes, Virat Kohli and boys have their place in the top four sealed.

RCB's Remaining Fixtures in IPL 2025

vs Lucknow Super Giants (Away) - May 9
vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (Home) - May 13
vs Kolkata Knight Riders (Home) - May 17

How can RCB ensure a Top Two Finish in IPL 2025?

Securing a top-two finish is crucial as it provides two opportunities to reach the final. To lock in one of these spots, RCB should target at least two wins from their last three games, which would take them to 20 points-usually more than sufficient to finish in the top two.

Even at 18 points (one more win), they could still end up in the top two depending on other teams' performances and net run rate. Winning at least two out of these three matches would not only guarantee a playoff spot but also significantly increase the chance of finishing in the top two.

Who are RCB's contenders for Top Two?

Mumbai Indians are currently on 14 points with three matches remaining. If they win all, they reach 20 points, but even a single loss could benefit RCB's push for a top-two finish. GT are also on 14 points and can be a strong contender for RCB for the Top Two spot. Punjab Kings are at 13 points with four games left, they can reach 21 at best. RCB would prefer they lose two to avoid tiebreaker scenarios.
