RCB legend AB de Villiers set to come out of Retirement – IPL stint on the Cards?

By MyKhel Staff

South African cricket legend AB de Villiers has hinted at a potential return to the game, four years after retiring from all formats of cricket.

The former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) stalwart has been a stellar ambassador for the game, and is keen on having another taste of the adrenaline rush.

AB de Villiers

In a chat with freelance journalist and broadcaster Melinda Farrell on her YouTube show, Running Between The Wickets, the 40-year-old left fans excited with his revelation.

"I might still play cricket one day," AB told Melinda, catching her by surprise. However, he quickly clarified that "there was no confirmation whatsoever" but admitted he was contemplating the idea. Known for his innovative strokeplay and ability to thrill crowds worldwide, AB de Villiers remains one of cricket's most adored figures.

Speaking about his motivation, De Villiers revealed that his children were behind his recent thoughts. "My kids are putting me under a bit of pressure, so I feel like I could go to the nets with them. My boy could feed me bowling machine balls ... maybe I'll walk out and play a bit of casual cricket somewhere," he said.

De Villiers rules out IPL return

The Proteas great even joked about playing incognito on the streets for social media content before transitioning to a more serious tone. "I'm talking on a more serious note, actually, of playing some real cricket, not professional IPL or SA20 stuff. But who knows?"

Despite entertaining the idea of playing again, De Villiers emphasized that he does not want to return to the pressures of competitive cricket.

Possible Tournaments for De Villiers' Return

If AB de Villiers decides to return to cricket, several tournaments could welcome his participation. While he ruled out high-profile leagues like the IPL or SA20, here are some exciting options:

Legends League Cricket (LLC): A tournament featuring retired cricket greats, perfect for De Villiers to entertain fans once more.

Canada T20 League (Global T20 Canada): A competitive yet less intense league that could suit his current preferences.
