RCB owner Ananya Birla gets Instagram Boost after IPL Deal, gets more than 400 Per Cent Followers Hike

By MyKhel Staff

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were acquired by a consortium led by the Aditya Birla Group in a record deal worth approximately ₹16,700 crore (USD 1.78 billion) in March 2026.

The transaction includes 100% stake in the men's IPL and women's WPL teams, which were previously owned by United Spirits Limited, a Diageo subsidiary. This makes RCB the most expensive franchise sale in IPL history and highlights the growing commercial value of T20 cricket.

The consortium also features the Times of India Group, Bolt Ventures founded by American sports investor David Blitzer, and global asset manager Blackstone. Aryaman Vikram Birla, director at Aditya Birla Group and brother of Ananya Birla, will chair the franchise's board, while Satyan Gajwani of the TOI Group will serve as vice-chairman. The takeover is expected to be completed after IPL 2026, with RCB entering the season as defending champions.

Ananya Birla in RCB

Ananya Birla, the 31-year-old entrepreneur, singer, and public face of the Birla family, has emerged as the most visible personality linked to the new ownership. Daughter of industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla, she has carved an independent identity as a businesswoman and mental health advocate.

Ananya promptly addressed fan concerns through Instagram Stories, confirming the deal value and assuring supporters that the iconic name "Royal Challengers Bengaluru" will remain unchanged, a decision widely appreciated for preserving the brand's legacy.

Beyond the boardroom, Ananya's involvement has brought fresh glamour and digital excitement to RCB. Her social media post not only calmed speculation but also attracted significant attention, leading to notable follower growth. Fans have drawn comparisons with other prominent IPL owners like Kavya Maran of Sunrisers Hyderabad, positioning Ananya as the potential new face of the franchise.

Before the RCB deal, she had around 435k followers on Instagram, but in the last few days, it has skyrocketed to 2.2 million and counting, already a hike of around 405 per cent. The projection only indicates that the numbers will keep on rising as the IPL 2026 progresses, which may reach up to 5-7 million and beyond during the course of the season.
