RCB Playoff History: Ranking Royal Challengers Bengaluru Greatest IPL Playoff Performances
IPL Playoffs: For much of their IPL history, Royal Challengers Bengaluru have been synonymous with dramatic playoff runs. Some campaigns were built on individual brilliance, others on stunning comebacks, and one finally delivered the trophy that had eluded them for nearly two decades.
Here are RCB's most memorable playoff performances through the years.

2025: The one that changed everything for Royal Challengers Bengaluru
No RCB playoff run comes close to their historic 2025 triumph.
After years of heartbreak and three final defeats, Bengaluru finally broke their title drought by lifting their maiden IPL trophy. Unlike previous campaigns that relied heavily on Virat Kohli or AB de Villiers, this was a complete team effort built around a stronger middle order and disciplined bowling attack.
RCB entered the playoffs as one of the competition's most consistent teams and carried that momentum into the knockout stage. A dominant Qualifier 1 performance set the tone before they completed the job in the final against Punjab Kings, ending one of the longest waits for a championship in IPL history.
2016: Kohli's masterpiece almost ends in glory
If one season encapsulates peak RCB, it is 2016.
Virat Kohli produced arguably the greatest individual IPL season ever, scoring a record 973 runs with four centuries. Alongside AB de Villiers, he dragged Bengaluru from a poor start into title contention.
RCB won six of their final seven league matches, defeated Gujarat Lions in Qualifier 1, and reached the final riding a wave of momentum. Although Sunrisers Hyderabad denied them the trophy by eight runs, the campaign remains one of the most explosive playoff runs the tournament has ever seen.
2011: The Gayle storm powers RCB to the final
Chris Gayle's arrival transformed RCB's season.
Initially signed as a replacement player, Gayle quickly became the most destructive batter in the tournament. His power-hitting helped Bengaluru embark on a seven-match winning streak and finish atop the points table.
After recovering from a defeat in Qualifier 1, RCB crushed Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 to book a place in the final. While Chennai Super Kings ultimately proved too strong, Gayle's dominance made 2011 one of the franchise's most iconic seasons.
2009: Anil Kumble's underdog revolution
RCB's first trip to an IPL final came in South Africa under the leadership of Anil Kumble.
The season started disastrously, with the team winning just one of its first five matches. Everything changed after Kumble took over the captaincy and transformed Bengaluru into one of the tournament's most disciplined sides.
Led by Kumble's exceptional bowling and Jacques Kallis' consistency, RCB surged into the semifinals and defeated Chennai Super Kings to reach their maiden final. They narrowly lost to Deccan Chargers by six runs, but the campaign established RCB as a serious IPL force.
2024: The greatest comeback in IPL history
No discussion of RCB playoff performances is complete without their extraordinary 2024 turnaround.
After losing seven of their first eight matches, Bengaluru were effectively written off. Qualification appeared mathematically improbable, yet they won six consecutive matches to keep their season alive.
The comeback culminated in a virtual knockout against Chennai Super Kings, where RCB delivered one of the most emotionally charged victories in franchise history to snatch a playoff spot. Although their campaign ended in the Eliminator, the comeback itself remains one of the IPL's defining stories.
