In search of their elusive title, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has stuttered after a good start in the sixteenth edition of Indian Premier League - IPL 2023, losing six and winning seven of thirteen matches so far.
With nine other teams also battling for a spot in the IPL 2023 Playoffs, RCB will need to be at the top their game to see off their challengers to finish in the top four, which guarantees a berth to the next phase of the tournament.

IPL 2023 playoffs will see the top four teams contest in four matches - Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2 and then the Final - to decide the winner of the 16th season. The top two earn a second chance at making the final.
The top two will face in the Qualifier 1 with the winner of that match earning a direct entry into the final, while loser gets a second shot at making the final via Qualifier 2, where they will face the winner of the Eliminator.
In the Eliminator, the third placed team and the fourth placed team faceoff in a knockout match. So, most teams, including Royal Challengers Bangalore, will aim for the top two positions in the points table.
As it stands, RCB are locked with three other teams - Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings - on 12 points. RCB has a slightly better Net Run Rate compared to RR, KKR and PBKS.
Gujarat Titans (16 points), Chennai Super Kings (15 points), Mumbai Indians (14 points) and Lucknow Super Giants (13 points) make up the current top four in the IPL 2023 points table. DC (8 points) and SRH (8 points) take the final two spots.
RCB, have a better NRR compared to MI, RR and KKR, but a slightly inferior one compared to LSG and CSK. And to improve their chances of moving up the table, the Bangalore-based side will have to simply win their remaining match and also have an eye on NRR.
RCB has so far beaten Delhi Capitals, SRH, MI, PBKS, RR (twice) and Lucknow Super Giants, while they suffered defeats to Kolkata Knight Riders (twice), Chennai Super Kings as well as MI, DC and LSG (reverse fixtures).
After losing six of thirteen matches, can Royal Challengers Bangalore, who are very dependent on their top three when it comes to batting in the IPL 2023, overcome the odds and still reach the playoffs?
Scenario 1: After thumping wins over RR and SRH, RCB have added boost to their Net Run Rate and playoff chances. But they still need to win their remaining match to ensure a direct qualification spot rather than depend on other results going their way.
If RCB manage to win their remaining match, they will finish with 16 points and have a great chance of finishing in the top four and even the top two depending on the results of the other teams around them in the points table. Plus, NRR will be key.
If RCB do end up on 16 points, they will want MI, CSK and LSG to lose their remaining matches, which will ensure they all finish on 15 or lesser points. They will want KKR to beat LSG. Plus, they will also want CSK to lose to DC as well as SRH to beat MI.
However, RCB will first need to beat GT to confirm their spot barring a huge win for MI in their match against SRH. Also, if CSK and LSG lose their remaining match, RCB has a chance to finish in the top two.
