With the IPL 2025 mega auction approaching, former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif has reckoned that the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) should approach Rohit Sharma and try to convince him to be their captain in next season.
Rohit Sharma is in focus ahead of the IPL retentions and mega auction as he was removed from the Mumbai Indians captaincy last season. Hardik Pandya was traded from Gujarat Titans (GT) and give the charge to lead the Mumbai Indians.

The Mumbai management faced severe backlash from the fans after the demotion of Rohit, who has won them each of their five trophies till date. Mumbai finished last under the captaincy of Hardik but Rohit emerged as their leading run-scorer.
Mohammad Kaif has strongly opined that Rohit Sharma look for a team where he can be the captain. He then went on to add that RCB, who are still awaiting their first IPL win, should approach the T20 World Cup-winning captain.
"Rohit Sharma should play as a captain only in the IPL because he is such a great captain. He has come after winning the T20 World Cup. He would have offers. We know people would have been calling him and asking him to play for them. I feel he should take the role of a captain only, whichever franchise is offering it," Mohammad Kaif told Star Sports.
"RCB should take this chance and somehow convince Rohit and make him the captain. He might not score that much as a batter, he scores forties and fifties, but I believe Rohit knows how to build an XI very well.
"RCB will gain because of it. Their title drought can get over. He knows how to get the job done by placing his arm around the players' shoulders. He knows tactical moves, where each player needs to be fit in the XI. I believe if RCB get a chance, take Rohit Sharma as a captain," he added.
The new guidelines have allowed each of the ten teams to retain as many as six players - all before the auction, or with some using Right To Match option at the auction. All eyes are on Mumbai Indians who have several Indian superstars in their team.
