RCB vs CSK, IPL 2024 Match 68: Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Chennai Super Kings by 27 runs and became the fourth and final team to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs on Saturday, May 18. CSK needed 219 to win the game and 201 to qualify for the playoffs, but RCB held their nerves in front of home fans at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium and restricted CSK to 191/7 in 20 overs.
CSK lost the wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad (0) and Daryl Mitchell (4) inside the first three overs, but Rachin Ravindra (61 off 37) and Ajinkya Rahane (33 off 22) resurrected the innings with a 66-run partnership off 41 balls. But the innings soon collapsed.

From 85/2 in nine overs, RCB were reduced to 129/6 in 15 overs. Ravindra Jadeja (42* off 22) and MS Dhoni (25 off 13) partnered for 61 runs off 27 balls but CSK fell 10 runs short to qualify for the playoffs. 10 runs were needed of the last two balls to qualify but Yash Dayal bowled two consecutive dots to Jadeja.
Earlier, after being asked to bat first, RCB scored 218/5 in 20 overs. Virat Kohli (47 off 29) and Faf du Plessis (54 off 39) gave Royal Challengers Bengaluru a strong start, and the likes of Rajat Patidar (41 off 23), and Cameron Green (38* off 17) also chipped in with handy contributions. Dinesh Karthik and Glenn Maxwell also played six and five-ball cameos for 14 and 16 runs respectively. Shardul Thakur picked two wickets for 61 runs for CSK.
Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK Captain): "It was a good wicket. For spinners, it was turning and gripping a little bit. Pretty happy with what the target was. To sum up the season, pretty happy with seven games out of 14. Injuries, not having Conway as well - made a lot of difference. Challenges right from the first game. Pathirana got injured, we missed Fizz as well. When you have injuries, it is difficult to balance the squad... Couldn't get over the line, but these things can happen. For me, personal milestones don't matter a lot. After all, the ultimate prize is to win. We couldn't get it, so personally I'm slightly disappointed as well."
Faf du Plessis (RCB captain and Man of the Match): "What a night! Such a great atmosphere. Just a pleasure to finish the season in front of the home seasons. There was a lot of rain falling on the pitch, and you don't want that moisture. It felt like a day-five Test match in Ranchi! The contributions from many batters at good strikes, I'm really proud.
"We were defending 175 [and neither 201 nor 218]! We tried to get the ball changed tonight. I dedicate the Man of the Match [award] to Yash Dayal! I said to him pace off on this wicket is the best option. It's crazy; even when we weren't winning, we had the fans here. It was set up perfectly - CSK vs RCB! Incredible. Thank you everyone for their support. It's really important that you enjoy this. Your first goal in the IPL is to try and get in the knockouts."
