RCB vs CSK: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be up against each in a virtual knockout encounter at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, May 18. RCB need to beat CSK by 18 runs or 11 balls remaining to qualify for the playoffs.
CSK, on the other hand, just have to beat RCB to move to the final four of IPL 2024. In fact, even an abandoned match will give CSK a point to qualify for the playoff stage of the tournament.

Chennai and Bengaluru locked horns in the IPL 2024 opener as the five-time champions defeated Faf du Plessis' side by six wickets. Also, CSK have defeated RCB in four of their last five matches.
While the head-to-head stats is stacked in the favour of CSK, one should not forget that RCB have won five matches on the trot to give themselves a chance to qualify for the playoffs. Their campaign looked done and dusted after they lost seven of their first eight matches. They now stand a great chance to beat CSK by the required margin to qualify for the knockout stage of the tournament.
RCB's solid form and home ground advantage: RCB have won each of their last five matches with a lot of dominance. It all started after they defeated SRH by 35 runs in Hyderabad. Gujarat Titans (GT) were hammered by nine and four wickets respectively, in their following two games, before Punjab Kings (PBKS) received a 60-run thrashing in Dharamsala. In their last match, RCB defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 47 runs.
During the period RCB have scored over 200 runs three times. Virat Kohli-led RCB batting unit chased down the 148-run target against GT in Bengaluru in 13.4 overs only. Bangalore scored 187/9 against Delhi. During the same period RCB bowlers have defended the target thrice. GT were bundled out for 147, PBKS for 187 in 17 overs, and DC for 140 in 19.1 overs. RCB have truly turned around their campaign in each department of the game.
CSK's depleted bowling unit: Injured Matheesha Pathirana is back in Sri Lanka. Mustafizur Rahman - their key pacer this season - also travelled back to Bangladesh for Zimbabwe T20Is, and would now travel with his national team to the USA. Deepak Chahar has also been ruled out with injury.
CSK's depleted bowling unit will be facing a really ardent task of trying to hold RCB batters, who would be playing at their home. There is a high chance for the likes of Simarjeet Singh, Tushar Deshpande and Shardul Thakur taken to the cleaners at the extremely high-scoring venue. Ravindra Jadeja will be CSK's best hope in the contest.
CSK batters also struggling: Chennai's opening combination hasn't worked this season, and the batting has mainly revolved around captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube and Daryl Mitchell. Dube has scores of 18, 21, 0 and 0 in his last four outings. The last fifty came six innings ago.
In their last match, CSK lost five wickets and took 18.2 overs to chase down 142. In their second last match against GT, they fell 35 runs short of the target. Batting against PBKS in Dharamsala, CSK scored 167/9, and settled for 162/7 in the match prior to it against the same opposition. In case Gaikwad and Mitchell fall early, CSK can find themselves in some serious trouble.
Note: Rain threat is looming over the match, and in case the match is abandoned - CSK will qualify for the playoffs with 15 points in 14 matches.
