In the high-stakes encounter between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 18, tensions escalated as Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis engaged in a heated exchange with the umpire.

Faf du Plessis, at the helm of CSK, entrusted the 12th over to fast bowler Lockie Ferguson. However, the wet conditions, owing to earlier rain, posed a challenge as Ferguson released the first ball. Unfortunately, the ball slipped from Ferguson's grip, resulting in an over-the-head beamer. Recognising the compromised condition of the ball, Faf appealed to the umpire for a replacement.

Despite Faf's plea, the umpire declined the request, leading to frustration among the RCB players, particularly Virat Kohli. A heated exchange ensued between Kohli and the umpire, with Kohli expressing his dissatisfaction with the decision.

Despite the umpire's attempts to defuse the situation, emotions ran high, and the confrontation quickly became a talking point on social media platforms. Meanwhile, on the field, Ferguson continued to struggle, conceding three sixes to Rachin Ravindra, further intensifying the tension surrounding the incident.

This wasn't the first instance of Kohli's disagreement with umpiring decisions during the IPL 2024 season. In a previous match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Kohli's contentious dismissal fueled his frustration. Following an adjudication out to a delivery that seemed a waist-high full toss, Kohli expressed his discontent with the match officials, resulting in a code of conduct violation and subsequent fine.
