The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium witnessed absolute carnage in Match 24 of IPL 2025 as Phil Salt tore into Mitchell Starc during the third over of Royal Challengers Bengaluru's innings against Delhi Capitals.
The English opener, known for his fearless approach, hammered 30 runs in that over, equalling one of the most expensive overs in IPL history. Virat Kohli chipped in with a boundary, and a few extras rubbed salt into the wound for the seasoned Aussie pacer.

Starc, who had been in red-hot form leading into this fixture with nine wickets in three games, including a five-wicket haul against Sunrisers Hyderabad, looked shell-shocked as Salt launched a savage assault. The sequence of that over read: 6, 4, 4, no-ball+4, 6, leg-bye, leg-bye+4 - an agonizing 30-run over that shifted momentum firmly in RCB's favour.
Salt was in no mood to hold back. With pristine timing and audacious strokeplay, he raced to 36 off just 14 balls, eventually finishing with 37 off 17 deliveries, including three towering sixes and four fours. It was a dream start for RCB, who reached 53/0 in just three overs - their second-fastest fifty in IPL history after the 2.3-over blitz against Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 2011.
Ironically, this was not Starc's worst over in the IPL. He had earlier conceded 26 runs while playing for KKR against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024. However, this latest mauling adds another forgettable entry to Starc's record, which now reads:

Salt's firewrks not only rocked the Capitals early but also left fans comparing Starc's over with some of the costliest in IPL history. Only a handful of bowlers have endured worse. Harshal Patel and Prashanth Parameswaran top the unwanted chart, conceding 37 runs each in a single over. Starc's 30-run over joins a club that includes Sheldon Cottrell, Sam Curran, Andrew Symonds, and Dwayne Bravo.
Despite the flying start, RCB's innings derailed quickly. Wickets fell in a heap with Virat Kohli, Phil Salt, and Devdutt Padikkal dismissed in rapid succession. Kuldeep Yadav and Mohit Sharma orchestrated a clinical middle-overs squeeze, reducing RCB from a position of strength to 163/7 at the end of 20 overs.
While Salt's onslaught might have dented Starc's evening, the experienced pacer will know better than most how to bounce back. But for a few moments in that third over, it was Salt's stage, and he turned the Chinnaswamy into a carnival of chaos.
One thing's certain - the IPL 2025 season just added another over to its ever-growing list of unforgettable moments.
