RCB vs GT IPL 2026 Final: What Happens if Rain Washes It Out in Ahmedabad? Is There a Reserve Day?

The stage is set for a blockbuster IPL 2026 finale as defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) take on Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 31.

RCB, led by Rajat Patidar, topped the league stage with 18 points and demolished GT by 92 runs in Qualifier 1, powered by Patidar’s explosive 93 off 33 balls. GT, under Shubman Gill, bounced back strongly in Qualifier 2 with Gill’s century, booking their place in this high-stakes rematch.

RCB vs GT IPL 2026 Final What Happens if Rain Washes It Out Is There a Reserve Day

This clash pits RCB’s championship pedigree and explosive batting against GT’s home advantage and resilient squad. Virat Kohli’s experience, combined with RCB’s firepower, faces GT’s balanced attack and Gill’s leadership. The Narendra Modi Stadium’s batting-friendly pitch promises fireworks, but pre-monsoon weather adds an element of uncertainty.

RCB are chasing history - a back-to-back title, a rare feat in IPL. Their explosive batting lineup and experienced core give them a slight edge. GT, on the other hand, will rely on home advantage, Shubman Gill's form, and a well-balanced squad to upset the defending champions.

RCB vs GT Ahmedabad Weather Update

Ahmedabad woke bright but the local met office issued a yellow alert for high winds and possible thunderstorms on IPL 2026 final day between RCB and home side Gujarat Titans. The city faces a heatwave (43.1°C) and rain is likelier on Monday, though brief rain interruptions on Sunday can't be ruled out.

What Happens If Rain Washes Out the Final?

A key question looms large: what if rain forces a washout? IPL rules for the summit clash are different from other playoff matches. Only the final has a dedicated reserve day.

Reserve Day Details

  • The reserve day is scheduled for June 1, 2026.
  • Organizers can extend play by up to 120 minutes (plus standard allowances) on May 31 to try and finish the match.
  • A minimum of 5 overs per side is required for a result (using the DLS method if the game is shortened).
  • If the match cannot be completed even with extensions, it will shift to the reserve day with a fresh toss and possible changes to the playing XI.

If the reserve day also sees a complete washout (highly unlikely but possible), the team higher on the league points table will be declared champions. Since RCB finished above GT in the league stage, they would be crowned IPL 2026 winners in that scenario.

This rule was last seen in action during the 2023 final between GT and CSK, which was also played in Ahmedabad and went into the reserve day due to rain.
